Ruminations of a Taco-Obsessed Philly Native

The Squaw Valley Ski Resort is a very popular ski resort located in Placer County, CA, which is located in the mountainous range just west of the California/Nevada border. The Squaw Valley Ski Resort attracts hundreds of thousands of people ever year for both the winter time activities, such as skiing and snow boarding, as well as outdoor hikers and campers in the summer months.

Due to the popularity of the Squaw Valley Ski Resort, the owner of the resort has been looking to expand the resort for a while. While there have been several approval hoops to jump through, the resort now looks approved and poised to go ahead with the expansion.

Earlier the Placer Country Planning Board approved this month the Squaw Valley Resort’s plan of expansion. The expansion plan, which includes the addition of more rooms to the hotel, more amenities to the common areas, more ski runs, and an improved gondola, will add a considerable amount of luxury, safety, and comfort to the resort.

Naturally, the approval process for this has included reviewing impacts to the wildlife, financial impacts, and other factors that could affect the area.  Read more: Andy Wirth | Powder Magazine

While the Placer County Planning Board has signed off on the expansion plan, the expansion of the resort still needs another level of approval.

The resort’s CEO, Andy Wirth, plans to take the plans to the County Board of Supervisors before the end of 2016. Assuming approval is received from the Board of Supervisors, the company could start the process of expansion as early as Spring 2017.

The Squaw Valley Ski Resort is owned by Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, which owns Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, another popular ski resort. The CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings is Andy Wirth, a real estate professional that has been focused on the hotel and mountain resort industry for more than 25 years.

Andy Wirth has previously worked in a variety of roles in the hotel and resort industry, most recently working as the COO of a company that owned resorts in Colorado.

Prior to starting his real estate career, Andy Wirth went to Colorado State University. Beyond his professional success, Wirth is well regarded for his philanthropy, which includes being on the Board of Directors for a number of local charities.
